Alternative Programs

Alternative Programs

Grades 9 through 12

The Alternative School Program is designed to serve students who are at risk of dropping out due to academic deficiencies, lack of credits, emotional adjustments, attendance problems, or other reasons. The Ponca City Alternative Program offers three different educational programs including the SHARE, Wildcat Academy and Teen Pep programs, each serving a different group of at-risk students.

The philosophy of the Alternative Program is that each student is individual and unique and has to be treated that way when it comes to their learning. Instruction is individualized yet rigorous and based on state standards. A graduation plan is developed for each student and reviewed each semester to make sure students are on track to graduate. In addition to traditional curriculum, students are provided counseling, guidance and life skill courses.

The SHARE program is located at Pioneer Technology Center and serves students who have a strong vocational interest and have been classified as dropout risks. All academic subjects are provided using a combination of online technology and classroom instruction. Prospective students must see Mrs. Streeter in order to apply to SHARE.

Wildcat Academy is an alternative school sponsored by the Ponca City School District. Wildcat Academy is located at 818 Poplar. The purpose of Wildcat Academy is to help students who are struggling in the traditional classroom setting. The program is intended to provide new opportunities for students in grades 9 through 12 who want to obtain their high school diploma. Students must show a willingness to attend school and the motivation to complete the required credits necessary to graduate high school.

Wildcat Academy has online curriculum along with teacher led courses. All Wildcat Academy teachers are Ponca City High School highly qualified teachers. Students are able to participate in all school activities sponsored by Ponca City High School. Students may also choose to attend classes at Pioneer Technology Center and/or concurrent enrollment at the University Center. Graduates will receive a Ponca City High School diploma and walk across the stage with their graduating class.

Classes run from 8:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. Students will be expected to complete a minimum number of classes, have good attendance, and no behavior issues. Students with discipline problems are not accepted in Wildcat Academy. All prospective students must go through an interview process.   Wildcat Academy 2020-21 Student Handbook

Teen Pep - The Ponca City School District has developed an award-winning alternative education program for teenage parents. The program is housed at 818 Poplar and has been designed for students in 9th through 12th grades who are pregnant and/or raising an infant or toddler.

An individual high school graduation plan is developed for each student. Classes are online with some classes being teacher led. Childcare is provided onsite. The ultimate goal of the Teen Pep program is to allow young mothers to stay in school and complete their high school degree.
